How You Will Contribute

Coordinate activities related to the preparation and production of labels for the reinstallation of the American collection. Manage and edit collection labels, text, and panels. Typeset texts and object labels and append object labels to the collections database. Adhere to established guidelines for the design and editorial style of Museum labeling.

Specifically, you will:

  • Manage permanent collection projects that take place within the Museum’s American galleries, including multimedia platforms.
  • Edit the texts and labels associated with these projects for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and tone, working with curators to revise as necessary.
  • Schedule preliminary planning meetings, create updated lists of the individual elements as they develop, and archive the final text for the Museum’s library and registrar’s office, for the collections database, and for use by the marketing, curatorial, education, and website staff.

Your diverse background includes:

  • Excellent writing, editorial, and communication skills. Proven ability to establish and meet production schedules. Well-organized and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • BA in English, Journalism, or related field.   (MA preferred)
  • 3+ years’ experience in professional copyediting. Museum and/or label editing experience a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
