How You Will Contribute
The Philadelphia Museum of Art seeks a Temporary Preparator for works on paper. The position will work alongside Preparator staff in the Department of Prints Drawings and Photographs for a four-month period to prepare artworks for multiple upcoming installations and exhibitions, with a particular focus on an exhibition of large-scale works that will be opening in July 2025.

How You Will Contribute
The Philadelphia Museum of Art seeks a Temporary Preparator for works on paper. The position will work alongside Preparator staff in the Department of Prints Drawings and Photographs for a four-month period to prepare artworks for multiple upcoming installations and exhibitions, with a particular focus on an exhibition of large-scale works that will be opening in July 2025.
Specifically, you will:
- Mount, mat and frame works on paper for exhibition, storage, and transport.
- Assist in moving artworks from storage into workspaces, handling and moving materials such as picture frames, matboard, and acrylic glazing, and helping to transport framed artworks to temporary storage when framing is complete.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Your background and experience include:
- Post-secondary education with a particular focus on Studio Art, Art History, or Conservation, with a BA of BFA preferred
- The candidate should have prior experience with handling, mounting, matting and framing works on paper at the level of fine art.
- Strong hand skills, accuracy, and precision are a must.
- Experience framing large scale works on paper is a plus.
- Frequent use of power, cutting, and hand tools is required.
- The Temporary Preparator will need to meet frequent and overlapping deadlines as well as to communicate clearly with coworkers.
Position and Compensation Details
- The hourly rate for this position is $25.
- This position is Temporary, Full-Time, Non-Exempt, and 35 hours per week.
- This position reports to the Head Preparator.
- This is a 4-month temporary position beginning in mid-February 2025 and ending in mid-June 2025.
- Physical requirements:
- Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
- The position requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and bending, as well as lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
