How You Will Contribute
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and trusted Assistant General Counsel to join our legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will serve as an integral part of the legal function, supporting communication, contract, curatorial, exempt organization, finance, fundraising, HR, intellectual property, insurance, labor, litigation, marketing and other matters. You will work closely with the General Counsel, senior management, outside legal counsel, and staff at all levels across all departments of the Museum.

How You Will Contribute
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and trusted Assistant General Counsel to join our legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will serve as an integral part of the legal function, supporting communication, contract, curatorial, exempt organization, finance, fundraising, HR, intellectual property, insurance, labor, litigation, marketing and other matters. You will work closely with the General Counsel, senior management, outside legal counsel, and staff at all levels across all departments of the Museum.
Specifically, you will:
- Review, draft, negotiate and interpret contracts relating to a wide range of subject matters.
- Assist in the development and drafting of Museum’s policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Advise on a broad range of legal issues involving communication, contract, curatorial, exempt organization, finance, fundraising, HR, intellectual property, insurance, labor, litigation, marketing and other matters.
- Support board governance work.
- Anticipate and thoughtfully manage legal issues, considering legal risk, reputational impact, and Museum’s mission.
- Independently exercising judgment on complex legal matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.
Your background and experience include:
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- At least 4+ years of legal experience, with law firm experience preferred.
- Experience across a range of legal areas and willingness to learn and develop expertise in new areas. Familiarity with legal issues related to contracts, governance, and labor a plus.
- Ability to adapt to change and think outside the box.
- Sound judgment and ability to collaborate with staff at all levels.
- Excellent communicator through clear and effective oral and written communication with exceptional attention to detail.
- Works independently, as well as collaboratively, leads projects, and meets deadlines.
- Analytical thinker with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple and often complex tasks effectively and efficiently.
- Impeccable integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
Position and Compensation Details
- The salary for this position is $159,000.
- This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and 35 hours per week.
- This position reports to the General Counsel.
- Physical requirements:
- Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
- Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
