The Strategic Initiatives, Project Manager supports the project vision of the Executive team. These projects are large scale, institutional efforts, led by multiple stakeholders that will amplify numerous engagement points to welcome a multiplicity of visitors to the Museum. These large-scale projects are opportunities to exemplify the mission that involve several internal and external stakeholders. This role oversees projects that will amplify the Philadelphia Museum of Art as a vibrant site for learning, curiosity, dialogue and joy that converges a sense of belonging. 

Specifically, you will:
  • Provide special project support to Executive leadership
  • Under the direction of the executive leadership develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and risk assessment
  • Collaborate and liaise with museum staff, trustees, curators, consultants and external partners to define project goals, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, monitoring expenses, track project expenditures, and reconcile invoices and process payments.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and proactively implement necessary adjustments to ensure timely completion with multiple stakeholders
  • Coordinate and communicate project updates to stakeholders, keeping them informed about project milestones, challenges, and successes.
  • Effectively work with a team and collaborate to function in a museum environment with high quality communication (written and verbal), partnership building and issues management skills.
  • Ability to work on complex assignments demanding critical judgement, analytical thinking, and balancing of stakeholder interests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Your background and experience include:
  • Bachelor's degree in museum studies, arts administration, project management, or a related field or equivalent years’ experience (Master's degree preferred). 
  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in a museum or cultural institution managing large-scale arts and culture projects and programs 
  • Strong knowledge of museum operations, multigenerational learning spaces, and project management methodologies. 
  • Considerable experience in facilitating community and other stakeholder meetings; managing scope, scale and resources on multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management principles. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Generate, receive, and maintain confidential and sensitive files, information and reports and ensure security of files.  
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required for project needs. 


Position and Compensation Details
  • The salary for this position is $95,000.
  • This position is Full-Time, Exempt and 35 hours per week.
  • This position reports to Executive Management Team
  • Physical requirements:
    • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
  • Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
