Manager of Leadership Annual Giving, Chairman's Council

How You Will Contribute

In partnership with the Director of Leadership Annual Giving, responsible for achieving the annual revenue goal for the Chairman’s Council program through a combination of effective renewal/retention initiatives, outstanding stewardship that leads to upgrades, and acquisition of new members making gifts of $10,000 or more.  Develops dynamic strategy to identify and cultivate potential new members through targeted direct mail and events, working with volunteer committee and Development colleagues to reinforce and assist in these efforts.  The Manager of Leadership Annual Giving, Chairman’s Council has a primary focus on direct contact with donors and prospects. This position is also responsible for overseeing acquisition initiatives for two of the Museum’s four collection-based affinity groups: photography (Focus), and craft (Techné).

Specifically, you will:

  • Develop and implement strategies to target and secure new Chairman’s Council members.
  • Initiate contact with current donors who require stewardship, have potential to increase their giving, and who can provide introductions to potential new members. 
  • Collaborate with fellow Development staff to to ensure a holistic approach to donors that include evaluation for the capacity and inclination to make major and/or restricted gifts to the Museum.
  • In partnership with the Director of Leadership Annual Giving, work with volunteer leadership (Chairman’s Council Advisory Committee) to establish meeting schedule and agendas, set overarching Committee goals, and guide strategic initiatives. 
  • Build positive working relationships with individual Committee members, provide volunteer training, and work with the Leadership Annual Giving team to prepare talking points and supporting materials.
  • Manage assigned portfolio of established donors and acquisition prospects. Achieve portfolio meeting goals to steward existing donors and cultivate new program members.
  • Evaluate the donor pool to identify those who are not active in the program and utilize various outreach and communication tools to ensure this does not lead to lapsed or dropped membership.
  • Partner with colleagues on the Corporate Relations team to explore, develop, and maximize cross-promotional opportunities to benefit both programs in securing new Chairman’s Council and Corporate Partner members.
  • Develop and oversee plan to increase membership in collection-based affinity groups (Focus and Techné).
  • Act as a conduit for deepening Chairman’s Council members’ participation in the life of the Museum through membership in collection-based affinity groups and curatorial department and program committees – contributing to a collaborative and holistic approach to donor engagement and cultivation.
  • Participate in the conceptualization and planning of collateral materials.
  • Provide, coordinate, or accommodate special requests from members that are offered as part of the Concierge Services available as benefits to Leadership Annual Giving donors.
  • Record actions with prospective and current donors in Raiser’s Edge database to track and ensure that consistent and long-term relationship building is occurring.
  • Liaise with Executive Office, Trustees, and Development colleagues to optimize donor cultivation efforts to secure new members and steward current donors.
  • Oversee daily operations of Chairman’s Council program including the timely mailing of renewal materials, processing of gifts, implementation of acquisition initiatives, donor cultivation events, follow-up mailings, etc.
  • Represents the Development department at various Museum events and activities. Other duties as assigned.

Your diverse background includes:

  • 5+ years of progressive development experience, with a focus on annual giving and high-level membership programs.
  • Strong fundraising experience with a successful solicitation record.
  • The ability to forge strong, working relationships with donors and volunteers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a superior attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
