Audio-Visual Systems Specialist

How You Will Contribute

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is seeking an Audio-Visual Systems Specialist to coordinate all technical aspects of AV systems used in exhibits, meeting spaces, public event spaces, and more. As part of the AV team, this individual is responsible for supporting the many events, programs, and various day-to-day activities that take place at the PMA. Working with both temporary and fixed installations of AV/data systems, this person will maintain, design, install, and augment audio visual equipment and related infrastructure in order to advance the Museum’s mission.

Specifically, you will…

  • Design and install all AV systems for exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Design and set up AV production equipment for live web broadcasts.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all AV systems, including equipment lists, wiring diagrams, wire database location, and status, directory of static IP address assignments and maintenance records. 
  • Research and recommend equipment and solutions for ongoing operations and assist in the development of long-term technology plans.
  • Interface with vendors and service providers as needed.
  • Perform control system programming, implementation, and testing (primarily Kramer, Extron and Crestron) for AV systems.
  • Maintain and program Dante systems
  • Assist in annual budgeting process. 
  • Install or supervise installation of equipment and cables as needed.
  • Assist in the management of the data network and configuration as it relates to converged AV systems.
  • Assist Helpdesk staff in support of conference rooms.

Your diverse background includes…

  • HS diploma; college degree is preferable
  • Strong technical background with 5+ years in the audiovisual field and prior experience with theater or live event support
  • CTS credentials from Avixa/InfoComm International; CTS-D or CTS-I is preferred
  • Experience with AV control systems (e.g. Extron, Kramer, and Crestron), videoconferencing systems and bridges (Vaddio, Blu-101), and Dante systems.
  • Ability to produce/interpret system drawings and blueprints such as system functionality or rack layout.
  • Familiarity with data network configuration in a large networked environment. 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to transport and position equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to move about the Museum to survey projects and equipment
  • Ability to install equipment in high, awkward, or confined spaces.
  • Ability to move and use lifts and ladders.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Availability for occasional evening or weekend work.
