How You Will Contribute

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is seeking a qualified candidate to join the Development department as the Manager of Donor Engagement, Events. This person is responsible for coordinating all aspects of large-scale Development events, both on- and off-site, as well as all programming for two of the Museum’s Affinity Groups.

Specifically, you will…

  • Manage all aspects of exhibition opening celebrations, as well as other events for the Campaign or other constituencies as assigned 
  • Manage all aspects of programming for two affinity groups: Focus (photography) and Collect (contemporary collecting)
  • Event duties include but are not limited to:
    • Working with appropriate MG staff to ensure reasonable goals and a solid working plan
    • Managing and approving budgeted expenses and maintaining clean records
    • Ensuring proper procedures and timelines for lists, mailings, deadlines
    • Drafting event materials
    • Developing mailing constituencies
    • Liaising with curator(s), Special Events, and all other internal departments involved in each event to ensure preparation and messaging is consistent
    • Representing Development priorities in meetings
    • Checking in regularly with the Director of DE to ensure that all activities are appropriate within a cultivation or stewardship context
    • Overseeing day-of event staff
    • Keeping clean and consistent post-event archives
  • While not directly responsible for any reporting staff, all three Managers of DE are supported by an Assistant. Related duties include:
    • Delegation of tasks
    • Weekly meetings and assignments
    • Mentorship and guidance
    • Oversight of any delegated work
    • Partnership with other DE Managers to help manage the Assistant’s time and workload
  • Serve as a resource in the Development department for all event-related needs

Your diverse background includes…

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum three years of progressive experience in development/fundraising, preferably within an arts or educational setting
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and demonstrated flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities is a must
  • A positive attitude & a collaborative approach to working on a team
  • Ability to be self-directed in work flow
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required
